Hello,

I have question regarding the layout of TPS84621. Pin 45 of TPS84621 which is also a thermal pin has two arms on this thermal pin.

The PCB layout note also specifies to have the layout Pad with the arms for pin 45 ( AGND pin). What is the reason to have this arms on the thermal pin.

Would there is be any issues or effects if we eliminate the arms in the pcb layout for pin 45. The reason for this question is that there seems to be some solder balls under the device after the reflow process. The CM reckons that elimination the arms on the layout would solve this issue.

Any advice!

They could omit the two fingers on pad 45 without incurring any issues. The only thing they would have to do is add a copper keep-out on their PCB footprint for this part where the fingers are located to avoid any potential shorting.

One more question regarding the thermal pad.

What is the recommended stencil opening ( % opening) for all 3 thermal pads for this chip ( pin 45,pin 46,pin 47).

The recommended stencil opening is 60%. The recommended land pattern is attached.
