bq20z65-r1 without thermistors

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ20Z65-R1

is it possible to use the bq20z65-r1 without any external thermistors ? what happens with overtemperature detection ? (the technical reference sluu386 isn't helpful).

i have configured it with bqeasy to use the internal temp sensor, and have also set OT1 Dsg Time and OT2 Dsg Time in the dataflash to 0, but it still has OT2D flag set in safety status2 (overtemperature). other flags are also set: TDA, OTA, XDSG (as in sluu386 on page 20).

these flags cannot be cleared by writing the pfkey and gas gauge cannot charge or discharge the cells (all fet control flags are 0). the temperature reading (internal temp sens) is 21 deg C. The OT1 and OT2 Dsg Thresholds are 50 deg C.

the ic has floating TOUT, TS1, TS2 pins on the pcb.

  • Changing the timer to 0 will prevent future OT failures from occurring, but it won't clear existing failures. To clear the existing failure, just issue the 0041 reset command to MAC. After that, you shouldn't see any further failures. Another option is to simply tie a 10k resistor to TS1 and TS2. This will trick the gauge into thinking the temp is always room temp.
