LEGACY CIRCUIT ENGINEERING - LM5576MH

There ia an obnoxious oscillation going on that is audible and gets louder under load.  I am thinking that my output capacitance does not have a low enough ESR.  I have 3, 220uf CAPS.  The data sheet didn’t include an actual ESR value so I am swagging on it.  I can easily replace them with a different cap, same capacitance, with an ESR of 160mOhms each.  Everything looks good though and is very clean otherwise.  The schematic is attached.

Input voltage is 65Vdc and the output is 5V @ 2.5A.

Can you help me eliminate the audible noise?

John

  • When you say it looks clean, does that mean no electrical instability?  If so then the noise may be

coming from the inductor or output caps.  Try to determine which.  Smaller case size capacitors will

help with audible noise.  If the design is unstable, that will have to be addressed first.
