If I wanted to pulse the LEDs which are ON using a 5927,say at 1Khz, would it be appropriate and safe to apply a square wave to the OE input ?

Phil,
Using the OE would be quite effective. This sounds like a dimming application. Using the Configuration Code is another way to implement dimming. The configuration code would need to be written to all devices that need dimming. The configuration code written to a device applies to all outputs on that device.

Dang! That was fast!
It is an IR array for a touchscreen. I want to have all the control, with error detection and still be able to send codes or freq through.
I have been looking at the results of one of your analog design contests which implements an analog switch to run any number of phototransistors through a single BP filter.. hence the need for pulsing the LEDs. Looking for more indepth info on that approach as well.
Phil,
I'm not quite sure if you need anything more from me or not. I'm not familiar with the application you refer to. If you have a specific question, please let me know.
