Hi,
I have an application involving LM337 and LM317. For thermal purpose I've chosen both of them in TO-263 package.
This package, as the datasheets show, has three pin with the same length, however, some pictures on the web show the same package with the central pin shorter than the others.
Which is the truth?

The 'Physical Dimensions' drawing near the back of the data sheets will show the specific dimensions for lead length for the package used for the specific part number. Other pictures seen on the web do not replace what is specified in the device datasheets
Yes, some pictures on the web (NOT for LM317/LM337) do show a TO-263 package 'option' where the center pin (pin 2) is not used, using instead the TAB as the preferred electrical connection. Commonly called 'DDPAK', 'D2PAK', or 'D2PAK' There is a small metal protrusion where pin 2 would normally be. This pin 2 protrusion does not connect to the PCB. This option is popular with MOSFET's.
