TLC7733 Performance at -40 deg C

Customer question;

The issue is the TLC7733 part is rated down to -40 C.  Ti has stated they do not test any parts of the “ID” or “QD” version at that temperature.  Please have TI explain how they can guarantee performance at this temperature by any of the following:

previous performance, die characterization, guard banding a 25 C parameter, laws of physics, or any other reasonable explanation.  I’m having difficulty convincing Program Management of the performance, quality and reliability of the parts.

    Hi Tom,

    I am not sure where TI has stated this; however, looking at the electrical characterstics of the datasheet, the test conditions state that these devices were tested and characterized over the recommended operating conditions, this includes -40 deg. 

    On page 2 of the datasheet, it states directly "The TLC77xxI is characterized for operation over a temperature range of –40°C to 85°C; the TLC77xxQ is characterized for operation over a temperature range of –40°C to 125°C." This also means that this device is guard banded at -40 deg.

    Hi Tom,

    Do you know where it is stated that we do not characterize the I and Q devices at -40 deg so that we can further investigate this?
