Change address bq33100

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ33100

I´m using two bq33100 on the same SMBus.

How can I change the slave address of the bq33100 to access both?

  • Hi Chris,

The bq33100 SMBus address is fixed and cannot be changed. A couple of options are using a dedicated interface I/O for each device or a discrete HW select function.

    Best regards

    Garry

  • Hi Garry,

can you please specify, how to run more bq33100 on the same SMBus?

Is it impossible to change the slave address with a firmeware update?

    Regards,

    Chris

  • Hi Chris,

It would take a FW change to achieve this but none is planned at this time.

    Best regards

    Garry

  • Hi Garry,

we plane to use the bq33100 in a new product with high quantities!

So the problem is first prototypes with two bq33100 on the same SMBus are manufactured.

We have to change the slave addresses, otherwise we can´t use your product!

Can you contact me personally via e-mail to find a solution? It´s really urgent!

    Best regards,

    Chris

  • Hi Chris,

Garry is on vacation this week, so I'll jump in here for him. What you are asking for is possible, but it would have to be a custom spin of the current product. That would be a decision made by a business development manager, rather than one of us. Please contact your local TI representative and explain the situation. He or she can get the wheels rolling. This forum is not necessarily going to get you the fastest answer for something that is a business, rather than a technical discussion.

Alternatively, if you can't use a "selector",  I would recommend a simple analog switch to route the clock line to the desired IC based on an unused port or address line from your host.
