bq20z95 problem

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQEVSW

Hello, I have problem with bq20z95 when I fully charged battery i can't discharge it - DSG

transistor is opened. Is this possible because I have max error>144%? Next question how

prepare production files ? I use SLUA334b. I did two steps chg-dsg and I want prepare

*.ROM file. In data sheet is written "change update status from 06 to 02" but my is 02

without any changing - is this because bqeasy did this automaticly ? When I write *senc

file back into the device and gg file according to the SLUA334B - i got 144% error and CF

flag. One more thing I opened/created  project on the one PC but I did cycles on the

second one - maybe that's why i have problem ?

  • It is more likely the DSG FET is opened due to a safety fault. Check the Safety status and PF Status register to see if any of the flag is set.

See the link here regarding Max Error = 144%: http://e2e.ti.com/support/power_management/battery_management/f/180/t/30964.aspx#107825

If you are using bqEASY to generate the golden image for production use, bqEASY will change the update status for you, and there is no need to modify the value from 06 to 02 through gg file. If you are using bqEASY, then simply follow the instruction provided by the tool. DO NOT skip any step. By using bqEASY through out the process (i.e. from configuration -> Calibration -> chemistry update -> learning), it is not necessary to reference back to slua334b.

  • Thanks. Screen from bqEVSW, as you can see battery is almost fully charged and DSG FET is turn off. I can't discharge it, I have to send cmd 46 6 to activate DSG transistor. What with second part of my question ? Is it possible to skip some steps from bqeasy and jump directly to cycle when I have programmed bq but on other PC or everything should be done on one PC from the begining Setup->Configure->Calibrate->Chemistry->Cycle.

  • You need to enable IT in order to allow the FW to have fully control of the FETs.

IT should also be enabled during learning cycle, otherwise, Qmax and Ra table will not be updated - nothing is learned.

You have a max error of 144. I would recommend re-programming with a default senc from the product web site (http://www.ti.com/litv/zip/sluc123), and then follow bqEASY from the beginning. You should NOT skip any step in bqEASY if you want to use tool to generate a golden image for you. You can choose to skip steps only if you are familiar of how to generate the golden image manually (and want to do it manually) and are very familiar of the device and its various file types.

However, you can skip step 1B in bqEASY if you re-program the device with default senc file. There is no need to program the default data flash image (DFI) since you already start with a default.

  • You wrote it's not possible to go directly to calibration, but when I have already prepared gg file can I export it to data flash and do only cycles? Next thing, today I imported gg file from bq and I tried export to other PCB's with the same IC's. But I got error in CC gain and in CC delta. I had to write this numbers manualy with coma because with dot I got error. I'm using Polish OS - should I change regional settings for UK ?

  • As a workaround to the gg import /export problem we recommend that the Windows Control Panel "Regional and Language" settings be set to English. This will avoid incompatibility when exporting  and importing gg files and having to translate. The language representation mismatch is not handled by bqEVSW.
