BQ20z45 Fuel Gauge CUV/COV

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ20Z45
  1. After the CUV/COV FET is off due to undervoltage/ overvoltage condition, the FET has to be reset on the BQ20z45 software to start charging again. Why would the BQ20z45 Fuel Gauge could not start charging ride away by it self with out being reset on the software to start charging. Is there any way that need to be done or configured to solve that problem so that it will recover from a cell overvoltage/undervoltage condition when all the cells drops below the cell overvoltage recovery threshold or when all the cell voltagerises above the cell undervoltage recovery threshold condition ?

  • The bq20z45 does work that way. The corresponding FET will turn back on as long as ALL cells rise above the recovery threshold (in the case of a CUV) or drop below the recovery threshold (in the case of a COV). There is a bit that can be set that requires charge current to be detected in addition to ALL cells rising above the recovery threshold in the case of the CUV condition. This bit is in Operation Cfg C and is called CUV_RECOV_CHG.
