How to set up BQ2060A for A LEAD ACID BATTERY (SLA) 12V-7AH ?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ2060, BQ2060A

Hello,

I need to set up and program the EEPROM for a LEAD ACID battery 12V, 7Ah with BQ2060 and the EV2200 software.

I started with the EEPROM values listed below (see picture 1).

I can read the right voltage, current and temperature but not the right (REMAINING CAPACITY) and not the right (RUN TIME TO EMPTY) (see picture 2),  I read always always 0.

Do I need to let the battery discharge fully and charge it fully in order to let the BQ2060A learn the capacity of the battery ?

If yes, Is there any quick way to set the IC to give the right Remaining Capacity at startup ?   Thanks

  • Yes, you will need to charge the battery to full, and then do a continuous discharge all the way down below the EDV2 level. This will allow the gauge to learn the correct Full Charge Capacity. Relative State of Charge will start working correctly once this procedure is done. Max Error should also change to 2%. This will need to be done for each pack in production.

If a reset happens (meaning RAM clears), the Relative State of Charge will be updated, but it won't be very accurate. There are 3 points named VOC25, VOC50, and VOC75. The voltage of the pack after reset will determine whether the gauge reports 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100% and it depends solely on which VOC point the battery voltage is closest too. A discharge down to EDV2 will then be required for full accuracy to return.

  • Adam,

R U using the BQ2060AEVM-001 with EV2200 to set up  gas gauge for sealed acid battery, 12V 7A. If yes, please let me know how to connect since BQ2060AEVM-001 does not shown to to set up with sealed acid battery.
