Bq78pl116

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ78PL116

Hello,

I am working on bq78pl116. I found the problem that as I connected the battery with the board I designed, one of the cells(6S-1P) got discharged automatically. To remove any doubt I also disable the power pump functioning. but still cell got discharged as if hardware drawing current ,b but on output there is no load or charger connected . The set up placed alone. Also if I remove all the components for cell balancing , can still the board be readable?

  • The EVM should still communicate as long as the device can detect the proper number of cells and build the PLAN network.

  • Tom,

I designed my own circuit of bq78pl116. & it is same as of EVM design. In my own PCB I found the problem that mosfet ao6604 get heated connecting to first cell. So I connected a ammemeter with first cell & it shows that around 300mA current drawn from it. The problem arises after some time from the connection of battery pack. What would be the problem in this case??/

The FET must be turned on. Did you check the Drain and Gate to verify? There must be a PCB problem or a damaged device, if the FET stays on continuously.

  • Tom,

I checked drain & gate voltages they are ok.Wahat happen is that sometimes from first cell current goes 1-10 ma. sometimes not. as pumping is off at this time. However when pumping is on current about 500 ma goes from one cell to another through ao6604 & it was damaged. Is there any limitation while we switch on pumping as there any cell voltage difference cautiously be kept under some range as if this difference is higher my mosfet gets damaged during pumping. But I needs pumping very much for my project,
