bq51013 Temperature

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ51013, BQ51013A

Hi,

I developed an  embedded device using your bq51013 chip in combination with the iwas 4832 coil from vishay. The schematics is similar to that of the reference design (eval board 150LP), in the layout I had to deal with size constraints.

In my first revision I had temperature issues so I changed my layout a little (wider wires, more vias, ..). Unfortunately my current layout does seem to have the same temperature problems. The temperature still rises above 50 degree Celsius within 10 minutes at about 500mA of load. The heat point seems to lie near the ground connection of the bq51013 (only one via?). Seeing that I added a short cable to different GND Pins nearby. That did not seem to solve the problem.

Anyway I think my problem lies somewhere else. The full stacked up system (sandwitch: coil, battery, pcb) produced similar heat as an open system where the coil lies directly above the transmitter (eval board again).

I forgot to mention that the process of charging seems to work fine (no restarts,..)

I would appreciate any help, thank you!

Andreas
