I have a request from a customer for the following information:

Can you provide the following information for PTH08T230WAD and PTD08A006WAD?

(1) Reliability reports
(2) Do these modules use components with pure tin finishes? If so, is there a tin whisker risk mitigation?
(3) What solder material is used?
(4) Is conformal coating used?

The quality links for module composition details on both parts are broken. The reliability links have no data. Can you please provide this? If not postable in this forum, please email me directly.

Same sort of question for voltage regulators, LP2951ACMM/NOPB and LP2952AIM/NOPB.

In order to use these pure tin plated parts with the normal risk of tin whiskers, what tests (JESD high reliability level), plating strategies, and other strategies have been employed by TI? Annealing, conversion coatings, thicker tin, nickel underplating, special plating baths, etc.

PTH08T230WAD /PTD08A006WAD and all other modules with through hole(WAD/WAH)power pins have the following plating process.

The copper pin material is first overplated by Nickel (Ni)100-200µ inches. Then the final finsh is matte tin (Sn)plating ( lead free) 300 to500µ inches.

Tom,

I'm asking about two specific voltage regulators but your answer today is quoting modules with through hole power pins. Totally different types of components! Can you refer me to someone I can write or call that knows the tin whisker mitigation strategies for these LP2952 and LP2951 components? The same sort of info you gave me on the through hole modules' pins!
