LM3401 MR16 demo

HI

I would like to design a MR16 solution that is able to operate with input from

  • The output of a 12Vac e-transfomer
  • The output of a DC 12V supply

I would like to have the the same constant current regradless of the type of power input. Is it possible?

I have tried using the LM3401 MR16 ref board, but using different source produces the below result

  • 12Vac - 1A (as per advertised)
  • 12Vdc - 1.5A (expected nearer to 1A)

I have a current MPS solution MP2370  that is able to provide

  • 12Vac - 1A
  • 12Vdc - 1.05A

The main different is the feedback loop, can i trick the LM3401 to output the same current setting regardless of type of input by manipulating the feedback to CS pin?

Or should I limit the current via the lim pin, but this can be quite messy because of the min latch time and termall drift variations

Or can the above be achieved, if not maybe i should look at another part or direction altogether
