UCC28810 (UCC28810EVM-002) enhanced Vin range and output current

Hello, I have a customer 10ksys/yr looking at this EVM:  http://www.ti.com/tool/ucc28810evm-002 

He likes the performance and wants to use it.  However, he can use it for many more projects if it can do more than the specs show.  He would like to run at a broader Vin range of 90-308VAC (305 abs max rms input voltage) and a higher max output current of 1.15A.  Can you please tell us what it would require or what changes are needed for this design to do both or either of those?

    I've shown this question to an applications engineer within TI and he wants to specify two more things:

    1. Do they require the same boost follower or a fixed boost voltage?
    2. Will the LED load be the same for the increase in current?

  • Hello, here is response from customer: 

    >>>>  The LED load requirements are as follows:

    Current:  Min 800mA, Max 1150mA

    Voltage: Min 50V, Max 85V

    So the total Max power will remain under 100W.

    As far as the boost follower goes, I’m not sure what impact a fixed boost follower will have on my design.  As long as I will be able the meet the same input voltage and output load requirements and use the same PWM dimming circuit I guess I’m OK either way.

  • Just got an answer from the engineer:

    Going from 267 to 330 VAC will require considerable redesign of the boost converter and buck converter but this should be no problem if the design spreadshett is followed. Certainly the same PWM dimming scheme can be used. The biggest change is going from 267 to 308 VAC for the boost section which increases the Buss voltage that subsequently impacts the down converter. If the input range stayed the same, then only the down converter would require design changes to accomodate the LED voltage change and current requirements.
