bq20z95 shutdown

I am interfacing a thermal printer to our system and when I power it on the battery shutoff. I have looked at it with a scope and the VCC pin 3 does not drop. The problem seem to be the discharge fet gate drive voltage is dropping. I have changed the 1st, 2nd tier TIME DSG to 0 and it still shutoff the pack. Is there something else I can do to prevent the Z95 shutting off the discharge fet? The current spike is 13 amp for 10ms. Normal current is 2amps. It doesn’t shutoff during printing just when the printer is powered on.

Do you have any ideas? The schematic is the standard Z95 design shown in the application manual.

  • HI Mike,

It sounds like the first or second level short circuit current level is being triggered. Can you connect bqeasy up to your chip and read out the 1st level and second level settings and take a screen shot and post it here? Also can you get a screenshot of the SBS screen, showing the the OC and FET status after the fault has occurred?

    Regards
