bq20z75 V 1.60 - how to monitor what mode (Normal, Sleep or Shutdown)

Dear all

I have a question - hope somebody knows something about this

In our application the average current consumption of the bq IC is important. Is it possible to monitor the sequence of modes the IC is operating (Normal, sleep or shutdown) by monitoring TOUT? It seems to be a relationship but I can't find a description of what timing of the TOUT corresponds to what mode. If I knew a precise calculation would be much more convenient in stead om using a uAmp meter in series with the batt +. or -.

Thanks in advanse

  • Kjell,

TOUT will pulse every 250ms in normal mode to take voltage readings. This will change to every 5 seconds in sleep mode. (You may still see small pulses every 250ms though.) The pulses will stop in shutdown mode.

    Regards
    Tom

  • Tom,

Thanks a lot for your support. The information is of value to me because during hardware testing of new production monitoring TOUT (we have made a test point for that) will tell what mode the bq is operating in. Now I know "the signature" og TOUT.

    Best regards

    Kjell
