TPS386596 SENSEn input capacitor

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS386596

Hello, all.

Now we trying to use TPS386596 on our PLC board, but this is the 1st time to use TI's voltage supervisor device.

On our experience, we have only used LTC1728.

Now I am referring TPS386596 datasheet, then found one description which need to be clarified as below;

On page6, I found the following description.

It is good analog design practice to use a 1nF to 10nF bypass capacitor at the SENSEn input to ground, to reduce sensitivity to transients, layout parasitics, and interference between power rails monitored by this device.

Meanwhile, our experience to place bypass capacitor on LTC1728 is following method.

LTC1728 Typical Application

Would you please let me clarify whether the bypass capacitor should be placed as same method as LTC1728?

Thank you in advance for your information.

Best regards,

  • Okui-san,

    A 0.1uF capacitor is required on VCC as described in the Pin Functions table on page 5 of the datasheet. A capacitor on SENSE is not required; however, it is recommended because it will help prevent false triggering during transients.

  • Hello, thank you for your prompt reply.

    I have one additional inquiries on TPS386596 layout as below;

    On our design,  we only use 3 SENSE input as;

    SENSE1: 3.3V Line voltage supervise

    SENSE2: 2.5V Line voltage supervise

    SENSE3: 1.2V Line voltage supervise

    SENSE4: NONE

    On this case, I assume that SENSE4 could be connected to 3.3V Line with 10kohm pull-up resistor.

    Please confirm your understandings whether this method is correct.

    Thank you ones again for your information.

    Best regards,

  • Okui-san,

    Yes, if SENSE4 is a 'don't care', then it should be pulled up so that RESET can release.

  • Fernandez-san,

    Thank you for your previous support on our inquiry regarding SENSEn input capacitor.

    I would like to confirm our understandings on MR pin on TPS386596.

    Since our specification is not to use manual reset functionality on this device, I would like to confirm your understandings whether we could directly connect this pin into SENSE1 line without any components.

    If we couldn't, please let me know how to make this configuration on this case.

    We thank you once again for your continuous support.

    Best regards,

  • Okui-san,

    Please see Figure 2 of the datasheet. There is an internal pull-up resistor from MR to VCC. If MR is not being used, simply open-circuit the MR pin.
