BQ24170 Issues

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24170, BQ24190

Hai Support,

I am using BQ24170 in my design and trying to power it up with the 12V input for the single cell configuration. I expect that the system side output to be regulated to 4.2V when I use single cell configuration. But I am seeing that 12V is bypassed to system side without any regulation. I am able to see 4.2V on the battery output but the expected 4.2V is not coming on the system side from the ACFET and REVFET mosfet's. Can somebody please help to check what could be problem here.

Regards,

Erfan

  • Your description is correct for bq24170 behavior. The bq24170 uses traditional charger architecture which output adapter directly to system when adapter is plugged in. When adapter is not presence, the system is driven by the battery voltage.  The system is required to handle the wide voltage range of 12V adapter to 3.x V battery input.

If you only have a single cell with high input voltage range for adapter, please consider our bq24190 family. It is an NVDC charger which would buck adapter input to single cell voltage.
