Hi all.
I have a concern about a design decision (made higher up!). In essence this project is a classic handheld processor system with a LiIon battery and the requisite power management circuitry. There is a requirement for battery charging and a few regulated voltages - 3.3V buck or ldo, 12V boost, 5V etc. There's a requirement to power them off too - eg: shut off the 12 V supply.
If it was a case of a full processor design a TPS65217 seems fine - it's the choice on the beaglebone. However I'm using a System on Module - a MityDSP unit with a TPS65023 PMIC on it already. In which case I'm failing to see how another TPS module helps me as TI make numerous other Power ICs and regulators that might suit better. I'm having a bit of trouble finding a reason though.,,
Is there a valid reason to pick the TPS for general purpose power management like this just because it has a few LDOs and a battery charger on it or would I be better off picking something else?
Sorry, it's a very vague question but the TPS65217 seems designed for a single purpose - to control a OMAP or Sitara processor.
Conor.
