Hi,

I wonder if the input voltage exceeds the maximum value in the datasheet(5.5V), what will happen? There will be a short circuit or open circuit, or even cause permanent damage to the chip?

    We can't say for sure what will happen, but any of the above might happen on a given IC.  Operating with too high of a voltage might overstress the chip.  Thus, operating outside of the recommended operating conditions is not recommended.  We have the TPS63060 for higher input voltages.
