BQ77PL900

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ77PL900

Hello folks,

I'll be using the BQ77PL900 IC to manage 9  li-po cells in series. The thing is in the  specs of the planned cells of Kokam  states that the max continues charge current is 225 and discharge is 450 Amps where in the datasheet of this IC I'm planning use writes that its based for max 30Amps. Do you think I can fix the range I want by playing with the current measuring resistance ? And by the way the reason of I want to use BQ77PL900 is that it has an evaluation kit so that I dont have to design a pcb card for the prototype.

Regards,

Fatih

  • Yes, you can adjust the sense resistor to put the input voltage for SRB and SRP in the range of the part for both the selected configuration values and abs max ratings.  The part does not know current directly but the sense input voltage.

The EVM has a current rating which might be considered low for many applications.  It is set for an intended demonstration use, ratings of the components used, and what is believed to be an acceptable temperature rise. Always check operation in your environment for safety. If you put the board in an enclosure, you may not want to use the rated current,  If you provide cooling air, you may be able to draw more current, but check the current ratings of terminals and check for overheating. If you switch much higher currents, you may need larger or more parallel FETs and a separate FET driver.
