I need a schematic design fo bq2000 in boost topology:

Input: +12 V

Output: 10 Ni-MH cells (around + 20V to be able to recogniize battery replacement)

Charge Current: 0.5A

The minus of battery shall be Vss connected (non automotive application).

You could try http://focus.ti.com/lit/ug/sluu351/sluu351.pdf although it is not BQ2000.

Will probably require micro controller to test for no battery and switch in different resistor values for trickle charge etc.

While a constant current source is required to charge nickel cells, there must always be a way to detect charge termination for safety reasons. With nickel cells, this is usually done by detecting a very small change in pack temperature or pack voltage. Any nickel charger should have this feature (detecting termination) for safety.

It would be possible to first boost the 12V to 20V or so using any one of our boost converters (depending on the charge current required): TPS61175, TPS40210, TPS61170, etc. Then, a linear nickel charger could be used, such as the bq2002.
