BQ20z75v180 BQEasy got stuck in Step5 Cycle

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ20Z70

When setting up gas gauging using BQEasy, I got stuck in Step5, Cycle.

There are three parts in Step5. Part1 completed successfully. Part2 got stuck, which is a repeat of Part1. I repeated Part1 process, but a dialogue window pops out stating

"Dataflash.GasGauging.State.UpdateStatus does not = 6. Impedance track learning cycle was not completed correctly. Verify procedure and repeat."

This happened twice. What could be the cause, and how to resolve this?

Thank you.

  • What type of cells are you using? I recommend using the learning procedure presented on page 208 of the bq20z70 Applications Book. Search for SLUA404 on the TI website. We may need to make some adjustments, depending on your cell chemistry.

  • Thank you. I am using SamSung SDI ICR18650-24E, the battery profile was picked in earlier Steps. I have followed the steps illustrated in page 208 of Application Book, except after discharge, I left the pack for rest for a whole night, say 12 hrs. One thing different from Part1 is that I increased minimum pack voltage, so the pack discharges to 1%.  Would that be an issue?

  • It does not hurt to allow the cells to rest longer than required. RSOC needs to change by at least 90% during the learning cycle, but it recommended to discharge the pack to the normal operating Termination Voltage.

  • Thanks, sorry for the hiatus, I left for vacation and just get back today. The charge/discharge process goes from 100% to 1%, so it should be ok. I can make it all the way to 0 in my next try.
