bq77PL900 BMS Design Question

Hi,

I am planning to use the bqPL900 analog front end for a BMS design using a Li-Ion primary battery (non-rechargeable). I'm using the schematic provided in the bq77PL900EVM-001 eval board documentation as the basis of my design. Since I will not be using the charge balancing feature in this design, can I eliminate the 510 ohm resistors and .1uf caps on each VC input? I am very space limited and would like to reduce the parts count as much as possible, However, I don't want to affect the reliability of the design.

Thanks in advance for any help.

  • The input resistors and capacitors filter transients from the cells which might otherwise damage the input pins.  Since you are not using balancing, you might want to increase the resistor value some to improve the filtering, perhaps to the 1K ohm range.  Since these resistors will not need to carry balancing current or dissipate that power, you should be able to make them physically small, but they are typically an important system feature in protecting the IC.
