After calculating the LM9061 Maximum Load Current Threshold against the min/max/typical limits for the variables, the possible range for the threshold is not acceptable.
What can be done to improve the LM9061 threshold accuracy?

Precision current limit threshold was never a design requirement for the LM9061.
Since the final Vref/Iref circuit accuracy is determined by a collection of internal variances, there is no proven simple external method to improve overall accuracy and still use the internal sense and protection circuitry as designed.
There are other devices that can sense current with accuracy, and these devices can be used as feedback into a control interface for the LM9061. See Precision Current Sensing Amplifiers LMP8480, LMP8601, LMP8646, etc, for examples. Alternately, a design employing a sensing MOSFET along with a ground referenced op-amp/comparator could possibly be designed to be used as feedback into a control interface for the LM9061.
However, the obvious trade-off for having higher accuracy with LM9061 is the higher cost and complexity due to the external support circuitry for Precision Current Sensing.
