Is the appln ckt given in bq24080 datasheet correct?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24080

I have designed the application circuit of bq24080 as given in its datasheet to check its working. But when i tried to charge the Li-ion battery, it did'nt get charged and the bq24080 got heated up and i think it would hav been damaged due to it.  I checked all my circuit connections and its same as the application ckt given in datasheet and all the components are soldered properly. Moreover the appln ckt in the datasheet shows CE(bar) pin is pulled high by 100k resistor while the the datasheet says CE(bar) is active low and should be low for charging. So is the appln ckt given in the bq24080 wrong???

  • Yes, /CE should be low to make it charge.

This device is low voltage device (7V max in datasheet). Please check when you connect input power to it, it does not have high voltage spike which may damage the IC.

To prevent this hot plug in high voltage spike, comman practice is add a transient voltage suppressor (TVS) zener to clamp the over voltage spike.
