looking for a small footprint dc to dc for 12v  to 58v/ 2-4A

  • Please title your posts better in the future.  "12V to 58V @ 4A boost" is a much better title than just "boost".

The power quick search at power.ti.com can help you find devices that meet those needs.  The TPS40210 would be a good place to start.

  • Thanks. I already checked it,but a design with WENBANCH and SWITCHERPRO if failed with this device, when need above 1A output current.

  • Hi Eli,

WEBENCH cannot find a design with 2-3A output because it does not have the necessary rated diodes. I'll see if we can get these added to the part library. SwitcherPro does not create a design because the algorithm has an issue finding output capacitors. Unfortunately I don't think there is any chance SwitcherPro will be updated to get fixed at this point.

The TPS40210 will likely work for 2-3A but with 4A I think it will be reaching the limitation of the gate drive current of the TPS40210 for the FET required in this design. For an example, PMP4540 is the closest I can find for the power level needed. WEBENCH again can't make a design because there are no suitable diodes. But for the 58V at 4A output with 12V input it will need a bigger low-side switch or parallel two switches. So, the design might need to use an external gate driver or create an interleaved boost at this power level.

    Best Regards,
    Anthony
