Problems with using bq25504

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25504

We are using bq25504 for energy harvesting application using solar input. We tried to replicate the circuit given in the datasheet on a breadboard. We did manage to get near datasheet values at intermediate nodes occasionally but eventually the IC stops working. We seem to have damaged 3 ICs over the last 2 weeks( The VBat pin, the VBat_OK,VBAT_UV,VBAT_OV pins show nearly 0 output). We would like to know where we are going wrong. We have not left the IC in no load operation and the input that we are getting from the solar panel is 1.2V, 150 mA.

  • Which schematic in the datasheet?  What is the open circuit voltage and short circuit current for your solar panel?  What is the VBAT_OV per your resistors?  Keep in mind the following:

If VIN_DC is higher than VSTOR and VSTOR is higher than VBAT_OV, the input

VIN_DC is pulled to ground through a small resistance to stop further charging of the

attached battery or capacitor. It is critical that if this case is expected, the impedance of

the source attached to VIN_DC be higher than 20Ω  and not a low impedance source.
