Several Charger ICs with I2C or SMB communication use the EV2300 kit and the GUI (written for the IC) to interface with the charger.
The EV2300 is not longer supported since the EV2400 takes its place and is backwards compatible.
The EV2400 uses HID, so there is no software to download, just plug the device into your computer, connect the appropriate communication port to your device as per the instruction in the device's User Guide (may need external power for pin 4), launch the GUI for the IC device, power the device and it should work.
I recently performed the task for the bq24715, a new release, and it worked seamlessly. I am told that it is that easy with all devices that use EV2300.
I am using Windows 7.
Summary: Replace the EV2300 kit, which has its challenges, and replace with the EV2400 kit, with nothing to load for the EV2400 kit. Was up and running in 3 minutes.
