Using BQ34Z100 with 12 NiMH cells

Is it possible (or appropriate) to use the BQ34Z100 for 12 NiMH series cells. I have seen some statements that this part can be used for NiMH, but there is no mention of this battery type in the documentation. Please advise if this is a practical gauge solution or I should consider other devices. If there are any appnotes, calculation guides, etc for this type of design, please share.

Dave, I am researching this.
I see some information indicating it is good for Nickel chemistry, but I can find no examples or details on how to apply it for such.
I will reply with answers soon.

We are working on bq34z1xx products to support various cell chemistries. The bq34z100 supports Li-Ion and LiFePO4 cells and the bq34z110 will support Lead Acid batteries and it is in the release process. We have the bq34z120 in development to support NiMH cells and it should be released in a few months.

Hello,

I know this is an old thread but is there any news on the BQ34z120?
I have looked around at various suppliers and the TI website and have seen glimpses of an EVM module and documentation.

The parts that are in the same series such as the BQ34z100 and BQ34z110 are available but the 120 seems to have disappeared.

Is the part available for use or should we still be using the BQ2013h?

We are making some firmware changes to improve performance on the bq34z120 and it should be released this summer. You can still use the bq2013h, if this does not support you schedule.

Will be looking forward to the release.
In the mean time I shall be using the BQ2013h and am currently testing it out as we speak.

Is there a way you can be notified of a release when it does happen?

The bq34z120 will not be released. It was replaced with the bq34z100-G1, which supports Li-Ion, PbA, NiMH and NiCD chemistries. This device is released and information can be found on the bq34z100-G1 website.
