TPS40057 gate driver output current or resistance

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS40057

I have searched through the TPS40057 data sheet several times and can't find any data on the gate output current. the maximum and minimum voltages are specified with a 0.1A current. I assume this is rms. Does anyone know the nominal peak current the gate drives can source or must this be done only by test?

Thanks,

chuck sampson

  • I calculated the peak current from the parameters used in the nominal rise times for the output driver voltages. Since Ipeak =C * DV/DT, the peak current for a 48ns rise time to 9Vs and a capacitive load of 2200pFis approximately 0.4As. Is this correct?

  • Hi, Chuck,

I think you can caculate the peak current by Ipeak = C * dv/dt, but the volatage might be wrong to choose, Vin = 9V doen't mean the gate drive voltage is equal to 9v, We can see it in block diagram that Boost Pin is provided by BP10 (10V), so in normal case, the drvie voltage should be 10V, and you can caculate the sourse current by this: Isourse = C * dv/dt = 0.458A. Also you can caculate the sink current by Isink = C * dv/dt = 2.2 * (-1.0)/24 = -0.092A, minus means sink direction.

  • Hi Chuck

You're right, the gate drive voltage of high side is almost 9V, I ignored the diode voltage drop. Thank you.
