Can LM5118/LM5118Q be used to design a battery charger from different DC source?

Can TI expert give me a comment if LM5118/LM5118Q be used to design a high power battery charger from different DC source. The power source may comes from any type of green energy like solar panel? Thanks.

There is no issue to use LM5118 as an DC/DC converter of the battery charger. LM5118 maintains output voltage regulation when the input voltage is either less than or greater than the output voltage.

It has not been tried with LM5118. Since both input and output voltage will not be regulated, I guess it will be hard to control.
