Output capacitor for TPS54372

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS54372

I would like to know the output capacitor for TPS54372.

The customer will use TPS54372 with +/-(sorce/sink) 0.5A.
And they want to reduce capacitance value for output capacitor (ex. 56uF*2 or 56uF*1).

In the case of using the small capacitor (112uF or 56uF),
are there any cautions with the small capacitor?

And in this case, how do we decide the phase compencation circuit?
I could not find the phase compencation in the datasheet.

Best regards,
Atsushi Yamauchi

  • The TPS54372 is a voltage mode converter with external compensation.  It will support a wide range of output capacitance.  The real questions are "What kind of load transients will the converter see and how much voltage deviation can I tolerate?"  Those will determine the amount of capacitance you need.  The TPS54372 supports type 1, type 2 or type 3 compensation.  Type 3 is usually appropriate.  There are many schemes to place the poles and zeros and derive the compensation values.  If you are uncomfortable with that I recommend using Switcherpro or Webench software tools.
