Wireless Power Charger solution with Battery Management

Hi,

we want to try out your wireless power solution and for that case I need a wireless power receiver that is able to charge a LiPo-battery with integrated battery management. That means we need to power our portable device from that LiPo-battery when the device is in use but as soon as it's back in its loading station the battery shall be charged.

I read your application report slua651, "bq5105x Direct Charging Efficiency Comparison", which says that concerning efficiency one should use an integrated charging solution instead of using a discrete solution. Surely I can use the bq5105x as a "standalone" battery charger - but I do need battery management to switch from power source to battery.

Can you help me please?

Hi Stephan,

If the bq5105xB is used, there is no need to use a battery charger. You can connect the Li-ion battery directly to the receiver and charge the battery.

that means I can charge my battery and power my system at the same time with the bq5105xB?

Stephane,

you will need a DC-DC-Conver from a battery to your system rail. the VBAT will vary based on the state of charge of the battery.

Hi Tahar again,

ah, fine! I asked because I saw a discrete solution with some kind of control IC which automatically switches the power source from power suppy to battery in case it detects that the mobile device has been taken out of the loading station.

Nice to know that this is not needed here. Thank you very much for your fast support!
