TPS63060, failing when hooked up to +12V gel cell battery

I have a problem with TPS63060. I have configured it for a 3.6V output. When it is powered by a power supply, it works perfectly. However if I use a gel cell battery the unit the unit is permanently is damaged.

Is there a relation between in-rush current from the gel cell battery and this device?

You will need to compare the input voltage waveform to the TPS63060 when each supply is attached. It is likely that your battery is overshooting sue to inductance in the cables and this is exceeding the maximum rating of the device.

Battery's voltage is +12.71 V and the power supply is at +14.00 V. It is interesting that the fuse(0.5 A) also blows. However the processor and the rest of the circuit which all together draw about 1mA are not damaged.
