Automotive RTC switched power supply

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2115A-Q1

Hello:

We have a (heavy vehicle/automotive) project for which we will be using a Maxim DS3234 real-time clock (the only RTC we can find with high accuracy over the industrial temperature range).   We have unswitched battery power from the vehicle available and would like to use this directly to power the RTC so that it only runs off the local coin cell if the vehicle is completely disconnected from the battery supply.

What are people typically using to do this (e.g. linear regulator)?

Requirements:

  • Input Voltage:  6V to 36V
    • Would be great if this could handle transients up to 60V but is a nice-to-have, not a requirement
    • Output Voltage:  3.3V
    • Output Current:  < 1 mA
    • Quiescient Current:  < 500 uA
    • Low Solution Cost

Any feedback or input is welcomed and appreciated!

Thanks again!

Paul
