BQ20z45 question

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ20Z45

Hi team,

There's an application using the BQ20z45 in a 3s1p configuration using LiFe2PO4 cells.

The battery is used in a UPS with shallow and random discharges. The charging function ends when the register reaches 95% capacity but the charge/discharge cycle doesn't seem correct. See below:
-Charging ends at 95%

-Discharge begins until 42%.

-Charge begins but holds at 92%

-Discharge begins until 40%

-Charge begins until 91%...etc.

There is a rest between each function.

Any thoughts on how to overcome this? My understanding is that though the datasheet says it can support LiFe2PO4 type cells, since the IC uses IT, it has trouble following the impedance vs capacity because of the flat discharge profile.

Thanks.

  • Yvette,

It will be difficult for the device to gauge these cells since you are not charging to 100%. The profile that you are charging and discharging over is very flat. Which ChemID are you using? Do you have a charge/discharge log file that I can review to check the state of the VOK and R_DIS flags?

    Regards

    Tom
