Who knows the LP3878-ADJ can support 12V transfer 5V 600mA application?
Or there is another suggestion. thanks

Hi,
If I understand your question, you want to provide 12V and get 5V at the output @600mA.
I don't think it is posible, the power dissipation would reach more than 4W, the temperature would rise and the device would limit the output current.
There are two alternatives:
1. Use a switching PS instead
2. Use a switching PS followed by the LDO.
Unless your application is VERY sensitive to noise, I would choose option 1.
Hi
If I change Iout SPEC from 600mA to 100mA, the power dissipation have only 0.7W.
I think LP3878-ADJ can support this application. Am I right?
0.7W is indeed easy to cope with.
You can check by yourself using the thermal resistance of the device. The temperature rise over ambient will be PxRth. Even for 60 deg/W, the temperature rise in this case would be around 40 degrees. You have to check what is the maximum ambient temperature the device will work at, what is the max. junction temperature permitted for the device, and if everything is OK, you are ready to go.
