Bridgeless PFC,EMI performance

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28070

Hello,

TI has a Bridgeless 2 phase interleaved PFC kit, how is its EMI performance if compared with another TI kit:2 phase interleaved PFC?

Need to see if the bridgeless one does cause higher EMI in order to select one of them.

Thanks a lot,

  • There is a 2 phase interleave PFC pre-regulator evaluation board using the UCC28070.  The semi-bridge less PFC was an application note on how to design PFC pre-regulator.  Neither of these were designed to meet EMI requirements.  That being said we don't have EMI data on either.

You could order a UCC28070 interleaved EVM and measure the EMI and then modify it for semi-bridge less PFC and measure the EMI. When it comes to EMI the semi-bridge less should be the same as a single phase.  When it comes to peak EMI I am guessing that they are probably about the same. Interleaved will operate at 2X the switching frequency and the noise spikes will have half the energy compared to the semi-bridgeless PFC.  If you do take this data could you post in the forum so everyone can see it?  I am interested to see what it is.

For interleaved PFC this is a 300W PFC pre-regulator and for semi-bridge less PFC it is a 150W design.  That being said semi-bridge less PFC has a lower power density than interleaved PFC.  Based on the size of the power stage, I would chose interleave PFC over semi bridge-less PFC.

    Regards,

  • Hi Mike,

Thank you so much for the information,it is quite useful.I would try it and post the results as you suggested, it is quite interesting.

I do have more questions though:

1)UCC28070 is analog control , I'd like to try using digital control and TI has one by 28027.  I suppose they are exactly the same in terms of power base board, the only differnce is just the controller, right?

2)Does TI have a ZVS PFC kit?

    Thank you very much,
