TPS54160 - request for details of the control loop

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS54160

Dear Non-Iso DCDC Forum,

I´m writing an article about using the TPS54160 with 1:1 coupled inductors, and for the control loop, I´d like to model the power stage more accurately than the basic transconductance gain given in the datasheet. The model I´d like to fit the TPS54160 to is the one developed by Robert Sheehan in his paper:

http://www.ti.com/lit/an/snva555/snva555.pdf

The information I need is the current sense resistance, the current sense gain, and the amplitude of the slope compensation ramp in V/us. (Or, if the slope compensation is variable, an equation to help me select it based upon a given set of operating conditions.)

Typical/average/most likely values are fine. Hopefully the development team of SwitcherPro has this information and could provide it.

Many thanks,

Chris

  • Hi Chris,

    Please find the information below.

The current sense resistance is the inverse of the gmps, so 1/(6 A/V) or 0.167Ω. There is no current sense gain. Based on simulation and matching lab data we have used Se = 2.5 for modelling purposes. The slope compensation ramp can then be estimated as VSL = Se * Rsns = 417mV.

    Best Regards,
    Anthony
