TPS76150 "Peak output current/current limit" meaning

Hi,

at the moment I'm designing a circuit with the LDO TPS76150. In the datasheet (Version SLVS178B) is written that this regulator has a "Peak output current/current limit" of 100mA to 135mA. Does anyone know what that exactly means? I thought that this is the maximum output current e.g. if the output is shorted. But a measurement in the real circuit shows that the maximum output current is 163mA (see attached measurement results).

Did someone already make the same experience?

Hi Michael,

This is much older device so it's difficult to pull up data relating to it. Why not use the TPS70950? This is newer high performing device in SOT23 also with current limit that meets your power requirments. Below is a link to its product folder.

Hi Darwin,

thanks for your fast answer. I can't use the TPS70950 because it's output current is too high. My supply for the TPS input voltage has a maximum output current of 180mA.

Do you have an idea why the real output current higher than the specification? Is the specification wrong? What is the absolute maximum output current of the TPS76150?
