I am using TPS61042 for driving the back light of the TFT LCD WF35CTIACDA#000 (19.5V ,20mA typical).

The heat sink is not provided on the PCB by mistake.I got the IC damaged twice (As it is showing short circuit on the power supply.)

I am providing sufficient current limit.(200mA)

Is that the reason of heat sinking is responsible for the IC to be damaged ,as there is no other short circuit on the PCB?

If yes, how to provide the heat sinking now,as there is no such provision made on the PCB board ??

Per the package drawing at the end of the D/S, the thermal pad must be soldered to the PCB for reliability.

But there are other things that might cause damage--input hot plug overshoot, poor layout, etc. Your local FAE can help you look at these and debug your board. Or you can order the EVM and get a known working design.

When you plug in the input power, if the input power supply is already on, it will overshoot its DC value due to inductance in the cables, etc.

Your FAE is field applications engineer, working for TI or your distributor. They can help you design and debug locally.
