TLC5940 - EEPROM and 6-bit Dot Correction values

Hello,

I have several related questions regarding setting the Dot Correction registers.

1. From the datasheet, I understand that the "default" Dot Correction values in the EEPROM are 3fh (all ones), for each of the 16 outputs. Does the term "default" mean that the devices are shipped with the EEPROM values programmed to 3fh (11 1111b)?

2. From the datasheet, I understand that the power up Dot Correction register values are not defined, which is normal for a static CMOS register. What is the method for transferring the the stored EEPROM values into the Dot Correction registers?

3. Refer to Table 4 in the datasheet. When DCPRG is Low, and VPRG is at GND, the device is in Grayscale PWM Mode. My question is, when the device is in that condition, are the Dot Correction values read from the EEPROM, and used as the Dot Correction correction values, AUTOMATICALLY? Here's another way to ask that question. At power up, do the Dot Correction values in the EEPROM become the 6-bit correction values?

I realize it looks like it's possible to infer the answer to question 3 from the block diagram on the front page of the datasheet. But I cannot find any direct written reference to it in the text.

4. Is it necessary to write to the Dot Correction registers after device power up? And, if the Dot Correction values are not written, then does the 5940 power up to an EEPROM factory default of a 3fh (11 1111b) 6-bit Dot Correction value?

5. If the answer to question 4 is 'yes', does that mean the 5940 can be used in Gray Scale mode immediately after power up?

I apologize if the information I'm asking for is contained within the datasheet. I've spent a few days poring over it and am unable to answer the questions above. I hope you can clear it up for us.

Thank you,

Larry Richards
