bq24170 / Vsw at input current DPM

Hi,

I would like to know the changing of Vsw when the operation will be changed from normal operation to input current DPM mode. Is the waveform the same or changing? I do not find the waveform of Vsw at input current DPM mode from datasheet and application note for this device and also other related devices.

And also I would like to know if the circuit of Fig3 in datahseet is used for 2cell application. Please let me know the reason if this circuit can not be used for other than 1cell.

Best Regards,

Sonoki

  • The switching waveform duty cycle is a function of input/output voltage, so it does not change if the input/out voltage ratio does not change.

If the system load is increased so the switcher goes into IinDPM, the charge current will be reduced giving priority to the system.  At this time the battery output voltage will need to be slightly less to drive less current to the battery and thus a slightly less duty cycle which is hardly noticeable.

The most obserable change is the inductor current, or battery curent, which will be reducing as the system load is increased while in IinDPM.

  • The cells pin programs 1, 2 or 3 cells.  see data sheet pin description for details.

  • Hi Charles-san,

Thank you for your comment. I could understand the behavior of Vsw at IinDPM. And also the circuit of Fig3 in datasheet can be used with 2 or 3cell by setting CELL pin.

    Best Regards,
