questions about BQ76PL536A

Hi all:

I have found one sentence in  the datasheet that "REG50 is disable in sleep mode",is there the sequence like that the REG50 disable and the IC go into the sleep mode?so  we can judge the IC status by REG50, if the REG50 is disable, the IC is in sleep mode;if the REG50 exists, the IC is not in the sleep mode. Is this judgement right?

         thank you.

  • Hi Zhanyu,

Yes, it is true that the REG50 is automatically disabled and left as a floating output in sleep mode. However, this is not the only instance that REG50 is shut off. The REG50 output "may be turned off under thermal-shutdown conditions". When Thermal Shutdown (TSD) is triggered, the REG50 regulator reduces its output voltage to zero and the ADC is turned off to conserve power. However, if you can guarantee that the IC does not enter TSD, then your method of checking the REG50 output should be valid for determining if the IC is in sleep mode.

Please note: Despite this REG50 idea, it is still recommended to check the IC status by reading the SLEEP bit[2] of the ALERT_STATUS Register (0x20).

    Thanks,
