How can I let my power management IC know when the the device is charging through the BQ51013A? From what I've read the CHG pin goes to ground when charging and is an open drain output when the device is not outputting so how can I communicate the state of charge when the device is active to either the MCU or to a PMIC?

Hello Derek,

For an open drain output, a pull up resistor of 10K or higher will allow you to get a signal to your MCU.

Open-drain output – active when output current is being delivered to the load (i.e. when the output of the supply is enabled).

Will the output be active if the receiver is still in the presence of a transmitter even after the battery has been fully charged? (i.e will the LED turn off after charge has completed or is there a way to know when the transmitter is still present after charge has completed?)

It will still on after the charge is done.
