Current monitoring from TPS24720

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS24720

We plan to use TPS24720 in our design.

I have few query.

  1. Can we use the IMON pin to monitor the current flowing through the device all the time.
    1. If yes then,
      1.  Can we directly give the output to ADC
      2. What is the minimum current can it
      3. Which ADC TI recommends.
    2. If no then,
      1. Can we use figure 5 mentioned in http://www.ti.com/analog/docs/microsite.tsp?sectionId=560&tabId=2182&micrositeId=7 accross Rsense of TPS24720. Will it disturb the current in Rsense resistor and hence disturb its performance and setting.
  2. What does "Current Limit Function Enabled" means. On the TI page it is written that current limit function enabled is only during start-up.
    1. Does this means it will protect from in-rush only during start-up?
    2. Other functionality mentioned in the device are active only during start-up?
  • Without knowing much about the ADC, I would use an op amp buffer between IMON and the ADC.

Protection and current control are active during and after start up. After start up, there is both a current limit with timer and circuit breaker function (fast turn off). Good descriptions are provided in the INRUSH OPERATION, ACTION OF THE CONSTANT-POWER ENGINE, and CIRCUIT BREAKER AND FAST TRIP sections of the datasheet.
