LM2587 compensation pin

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM2587, LM3488

Hello,

I am planning to use the LM2587 in an non-isolated boost converter application.  The LM2587 datasheet only provides example circuit, but it does not explain how to calculate the compensation capacitor and resistor.  I know the error amplifier is a transconductance amplifier, but how to figure out the overall loop-gain and phase margin?  Yes, I know I can use the WEBENCH Designer, but it only shows the result.  What I want is a more technical explanation on how those R and C are calculted, for example, using Bode Plots and small signal AC analysis with poles and zeros etc.
