bq34z100 problem with bqChem in evaluation software - will not show chemistry list

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z100, BQEVSW

Hi there,

I've looked at other posts about this, but my problem appears to be slightly different. Within the bq34z100 evalution software, the bqChem tab tells me it cannot find the bqCHEM.ini file, despite that fact that this is present within the 'plugins' folder in the program files, however, I'm led to believe this isn't a huge problem, and it can still work without this file. My main problem is that the software simply will not display the chemistry list, and so I cannot select a chemistry, and it can't be programmed to the chip.

I have used the Gas Gauge chemistry updater tool here http://www.ti.com/tool/gasgaugechem-sw to update the battery chemistry files. I even deleted the Chemistry sub-folder (within 'plugins') beforehand, as was suggested in a different post. However, despite all of this, the bqChem tab in the evaluation software will not show the list of chemistries at all. It only shows a seemingly default screen explaining why different battery chemistries make a difference.

I have tried re-installing both the evaluation software and the chemistry updater several times. I've also restarted my computer. I can see from the excel spreadsheets within the chemistry updater tool which chemistry I need to program - is there a way to do this manually by changing certain flash data parameters?

Thanks in advance for any help,

Heather

  • Heather,

We found a problem with the bqEVSW where it would lose the chemistry data. We placed an updated setup program on the bq34z100 website a couple of weeks ago. Did you download this updated version? What operating system are you using? You will need to select the administrator option, if you are using Windows 7. When the program gets to the screen where it ask if you want to open bqEVSW, then uncheck all of the boxes and continue.

    Regards
    Tom

  • Hi Tom,

Thanks for your reply; I've downloaded the latest software as you suggested and the software has stopped saying it can't find the .ini file, so that's sorted. As for it not showing the chemistry tables, it's still having this problem however I've realised that's because I need MathCad installed. I'll install the program and post again if the problem continues. In the meantime, thanks again for your help.

    Cheers,

    Heather

  • Hi Tom,

I've installed Mathcad 14, and unfortunately the evaluation software still won't display the values, although, as mentioned before, it no longer has any difficulty with the .ini file. I tried re-installing the evaluation software after Mathcad was installed, and re-updating the chemistry files, both using the most up-to-date files on the website you directed me to, but to no avail. Is there anything else you can suggest? I'm using Windows XP.

    Many thanks,

    Heather

  • Heather,

Does the program show any of the ChemID's and has it ever worked for you? What operating system are you using? If you are using Windows 7, then you need to use the Administrator option when loading the tools. Have you tired deleting all of the files from the Chemistry directory to see if that will resync the files?

    Regards
    Tom

  • Hi Tom,

I'm using Windows XP. I've included a screenshot as to how the software looks within the bqChem tab. It may also be worth noting there's no scroll-bar available within that screen.

It has never worked yet unfortunately. I have tried deleting all the chemistry directory files and re-synching, but it doesn't make any difference I'm afraid.

    Cheers,

    Heather

  • Heather,

I have not been able to reproduce your problem, but we are looking at it.

  • Hi Tom,

Thanks for keeping me up to date with this. I've identified the battery chemistry I need as number 0404. Seeing as you're not having any luck so far in solving the problem, is it possible to manually alter the chip's flash data within the evaluation software to program it with this chemistry? And if so, would you be able to let me know which fields to alter? I'm using this chip as part of a University project, and the deadline is fast approaching. If it simply can't be done, then fair enough.

    Many thanks,

    Heather

  • Heather,

Can you attach the gg file with your setup to this message string and I will import it and the ChemID into a device? I will send a senc file with this setup to you tomorrow.

    regards

    Tom

  • Heather,

Here is the default senc file with ChemID 404 installed. You will need to manually enter your data flash updates, since I did not have a gg file containing them.

  • Hi Tom,

Thanks for this, very helpful; I've programmed the file and the correct battery ID is now in place.

I'm very grateful for all your help.

    Cheers,
